Hi everyone!
This is the start of a co-authored blog between me, the Reach for the Stars Academy school psychologist, and my colleague, the school social worker. We are here to help move Reach for the Stars students through the messy transition from school to real life, and will be posting helpful articles, commenting on processes and procedures for parents and students, and adding links to other informational sites.
We as a community need to prepare our children for life after high school, and our special education students and parents especially need support. Preparing for the transition should not happen the last week of senior year...instead, we can begin to get our students ready as soon as they enter high school by building necessary skills, working together to facilitate adjustment, and developing supportive programming.
We will be at the (Real) Game of Life: Transitions to Adulthood Community Fair on Friday, June 25th, so come out and see the faces begind the blog! There will be many different booths and resources for parents and students, so get ready for some edutainment!
